World class fly fishing

Four stocked fly fishing dams on the Estate – no bookings is required. Fishing Rods can be hired from The Angler in Dullstoom Town @ R100 + R50 Deposit. Contact Jenny 079 527 2537

Mountain biking

There is a number of exciting MTB routes on the Estate which are marked on the map – bikes can be hired in Dullstroom Town at The Old Transvaal Inn. R200 per day. No Deposit. Maximum of 3 Mountainbikes are available. – Callen Watson – 082 785 7623

Hiking

Our hiking trails meander through the rolling hills of the Steenkampsberg mountain range, the highlight being the hike of 2km along the escarpment to view the spectacular 125m waterfall which cascades to join the Crocodile River.

Picnic

A beautiful picnic spot near the trout dams with its cobbling water streams offers a tranquil setting for a glorious family picnic. Enquire with the restaurant for picnic hampers or a snack table with gin & wine bar (exclusively for groups). 082 454 7960

Relax at the clubhouse

The state-of-the-art clubhouse allows for spectacular views and features the pro-shop, a fine dining restaurant, luxurious lounge, TV bar and terrace, conference centre, tennis court as well as a kid’s play area.

Bird watching

Take the family on a stroll on the walking paths to discover these treasures and more. Specials include the Ground Woodpecker, Sentinel Rock-Thrush, Rufous-crested Sparrow hawk, Southern Bald Ibis, Gurney’s Sugarbird, Wattle and Blue Cranes, Red-crested and White-winged Fluff tails, Denham’s Bustard, Pale-crowned Cisticola, and Black winged Lapwing, Cape Eagle-Owl, Yellow-breasted Pipit and Buff-streaked Chat. The best season for this is September to January.

Tennis

2 Tennis courts is available next to the clubhouse. The clubhouse do sell tennis balls. Bring your own tennis racket – no bookings is required.

Helicopter

A helicopter landing pad is available. If any of our guests want to land, they need to send an mail to (admin@highlandgate.org.za) with the below information. Please note there are no fees associated and transport to the house or clubhouse would also have to be arranged.

Conference Facilities

The multi-functional conference room is available for use by companies or individuals for meetings, team building sessions, training, product launches, birthdays or any other business or private function. Various room configurations will allow up to 120 delegates in a function or presentation room style set-up. 082 287 4652

The Flycatcher Restaurant @ Clubhouse

The Flycatcher Restaurant serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. They also have a very nice display of cakes for a tee/coffee break. They are closed on Mondays – 082 454 7960

Horse Riding

Experience a beautiful view while on horse back. 1 hour trips @ R250 pp route start at Dullstroom dam and goes along the dam, goes little in to the country side and back again. 2 hour trip R380 start on Dullstroom dam along dam to the top of the mountain and experience a full view of the town. Zipline and Abseiling

These are activities at Dunkeld Estate. R150pp for Zipline (1 hour) and R450pp for Abseiling(1 hour). Please take note that activity must be booked well in advance. – 078 293 1403

Verloren Valei Reserve

It is one of few places in the country to where three of the world’s endangered cranes breed. Venture out on your own, there is a small entrance fee or arrange for a guided tour. Guided tour by appointment only – 072 423 7205

Clay Pigeon Shooting

The cost is R450 per person per round of 25 shots. The full service includes the gun (12gauge) ammo, the clays, the range / safety officer, induction, and some light coaching & tips on how to shoot moving targets. Minimum age 12yrs. Golf

The Pro-shop ended 2019 on a very good note with a total of 20551 players playing at Highland Gate throughout the course of the year. This was an increase of 2611 players on the year 2018.
